96 New Trains: Inside Namma Metro’s Big Fleet Modernization Push

3 new trains live in June 2026

The most common complaint about Namma Metro isn’t the route — it’s the wait. That’s exactly what BMRCL’s biggest-ever fleet expansion is built to fix, with up to 96 new trains rolling onto the network.

The 96-train expansion

Namma Metro is in the middle of a major modernization drive, with up to 96 new trains set to join the fleet over the coming phases. Three brand-new trainsets are scheduled to enter service in June 2026, part of a steady pipeline of deliveries from manufacturers like Titagarh Rail Systems and BEML.

More trains mean shorter headways — the gap between services — which is the single most important lever for making a metro feel fast and reliable.

Why frequency beats almost everything

A metro line is only as good as how often the trains arrive. When frequencies are tight, commuters stop checking timetables and simply show up — and that turn-up-and-go reliability is what pulls people out of cars and autos.

The new fleet is targeted precisely at the corridors feeling the most strain, including the rapidly growing Yellow and Green lines, where demand has outpaced the original number of trainsets.

Building for a 30-lakh future

BMRCL is planning for a future where daily ridership climbs well beyond today’s levels as new lines open. Expanding the fleet now is how the system gets ahead of that demand instead of perpetually chasing it.

For everyday riders, the payoff is simple and immediate: less time staring down an empty tunnel, more trains, smoother commutes.
